|The Old Albanians Hockey Club was started in the mid 1980′s by a group of Old Boys from St Alban’s College. From very humble beginnings it has grown into the largest non-university Club in Pretoria. It is based at the College and has access to a water based astro (relaid in 2011), world class lighting and the school pavilion and pub.The Mens section of the Club has five teams. The 1st has been in the Premier league for 6 years. The second side earned promotion to the 2nd League and 3rd team will play in the 3rd League after promotion in 2013. The final men’s team is our dedicated u14 – u16 COLTS team that also plays in the adult 4th league. In this team we focus on developing younger players as quickly as possible so that we can move them to the higher teams as soon as they are ready. We are considering entering a 5th mens team depending on the total numbers registered, this will possibly be a second Colts team|
|Our final team is the Potters Team for older players, not wanting to train etc but wanting to play good hockey while enjoying the many other social aspects of Club Hockey. The Potters play in the Northerns Master League and are a great group of guys still very enthusiastic about the game and new team members are always very welcome.|
|The Ladies section of the Club has four teams. In 2013 the Ladies 1st and 2nd teams will play in the Premier League and the 3rds in the 3rd League. As for the boys we have dedicated schoolgirl CUBS team that plays in the adult 3rd league to develop our younger ladies players. Again we are considering entering a 5th team depending on the numbers registered.
The Club (in partnership with St Alban’s Colllege) also runs a Junior Section for two hours late afternoon / early evenings on Fridays. Typically we have 18 sessions in a season. We cater for five age groups, namely U6, U8, U10, U12 and U13. The focus is on learning to enjoy the game, skills development, playing in a team and having FUN. The children play matches amongst themselves as part of the afternoon training and we arrange special fixtures or festivals where possible. See the Junior Section Page with much more detail. You can register on-line immediately or make further enquiries to Robin Learmonth (082 807 9154)
Via our Junior Section and our COLTS and CUBS teams, the Club actively promotes the participation and membership of children (and their parents) and are very proud of the structures we have in place for our younger members. We have already had children come through the COLTS and CUBS systems into our Premier league teams and as a Club we are confident many of Junior members will remain OAHC members for many years
For our Adult members we have a culture that is a unique blend of fun, community, growth and high performance. When we are on the turf we offer well organised systems and selection processes, high standard training sessions 4 nights a week, at least 15 competitive matches per season per team. When we are off the turf we have a social vibe that will satisfy the party needs of anyone
